ECOLOGICAL ECONOMICS
This course introduces the analytical tools needed to understand environmental degradation and sustainability. After showing the links between the economy and physical world (societal metabolism), the notion of sustainability and the discussions around it are presented. The tools for sustainability and environmental policies are then tackled. The course moves on to the different methods to set goals, firstly standard theory of externality inefficiency and monetary evaluation, then multicriteria analysis and non- monetary evaluation. Finally the focus will be on the contributions of N. Georgescu Roegen and Karl William Kapp. A resume of the main features of ecological economics and its differences from standard environmental economics concludes the course.
